The Dream Team

Incredibly thankful to have the best medical team caring for Soleil🙏

• Rady Children’s Hospital

The entire extended family is grateful to continue post-op care and treatment in San Diego, their hometown.

Dr. John Crawford, Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist

Before arriving, Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Sherr Leary at Seattle Children’s assured May and James they would be in the best hands with Dr. John Crawford, her colleague. On April 28, James, Soleil and May were airlifted to San Diego and admitted to Rady Children’s Hospital. Dr. Crawford met them in the hallway and walked alongside the family to their room.  They were immediately drawn to his calm, confident bedside manner.  He is everything Dr. Leary described and more. We are definitely blessed to be under his care.

Lanipua Yeh-Nayre, Neuro-Oncology Nurse Practitioner

Lani works alongside Dr. Crawford and is just as amazing. Be it a question or concern regarding symptoms or treatment, Lani is knowledgeable, resourceful and on-point.

Gail Garcellano, Neuro-Oncology Case Manager, Registered Nurse

Gail is our go-to gal! An “essential” player on our SoleilStrong Team. She wears many hats. From scheduling appointments, to organizing events, putting the family in touch with the right folks, and keeping them on track. We love the thoughtfulness and time she takes to follow-up with James, May and Soleil – taking care to listen to their concerns and address them. Grateful to have Gail as our right-hand woman throughout Soleil’s treatment.

Dr. Skalasky, Rehabilitation

Dr. Skalasky and his wonderful team of therapists are key when it comes to recovery, especially with the Posterior Fossa Syndrome.

• Scripps Proton Therapy Center

Dr. Andrew Chang, Chief of Pediatric Beam Therapy with expertise in Pediatric Oncology

Dr. Atman Pai, Radiation Oncology Specialist with expertise in Pediatric and Proton Beam Therapy

We are incredibly thankful to be among the world’s best doctors., including Dr. Pai, here with our Sunshine Girl. He came from St. Jude’s and is now at Scripps – the first U.S. proton therapy center to use pencil-beam technology for precise targeting and reduced radiation exposure. Dr. Pai’s expertise, knowledge and bedside manner are top-notch!

• Seattle Children’s Hospital

Ranked as No. 1 on the West Coast and in the Country’s Top 10, James and May feel fortunate to have had the best medical staff assess and address their concerns, including the Nation’s top pediatric Neurosurgeons to remove the brain tumor and perform the Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy. #Lifesavers

Dr. Samuel R. Browd, Neurosurgeon (Craniotomy)

Dr. Amy Lee, Neurosurgeon (ETV)

Dr. Lynn McGrath and Dr. Kelly Collins, Resident Neurosurgeons

Dr. Niranjana Natarajan, Neurologist

Soleil’s Neuro Consult appointment was on April 12. Thank God Dr. Natarajan saw what May was describing and pushed for an MRI that night.

Angela Forbes and Mandy Breedt, Neurosurgery Nurse Practiotioners

The moment May and James met Angela, they knew there was something about her. Angie’s candid-yet-caring bedside manner, is what eased May and James given Soleil’s diagnosis, especially with the Posterior Fossa Syndrome (PFS). Throughout their stay, Angie oversaw Soleil’s care and checked in on them daily. She even called on her day off. She was the “hope” and reassurance they needed by their side. Truly an angel. Mandy exudes
a positive presence and specializes in Posterior Fossa Syndrome. May and James will be sharing Soleil’s journey with PFS in hopes of providing more information to families experiencing the same post-operative condition.
